Not just recognised for their growing initiatives around the Bundaberg region and the supply of fresh, local produce through their Brisbane Markets wholesale operations, Carter & Spencer Group has also been recognised as one of Australia’s top innovative exporters of Australian-grown fruit and vegetables.
Announced as a finalist of the Hort Innovation Exporter of the Year Award for 2023 at the recent Hort Connections event in Adelaide, Business Manager Matthew Spencer said he was proud of his team for their achievements.
“Although we didn’t take out the top prize, I am thrilled we were recognised as a finalist for this award. That is an achievement in itself,” said Mr Spencer.
The Hort Innovation Exporter of the Year Award recognises fresh produce businesses that have demonstrated a strong commitment to exporting, has invested in building a sustainable export capability, and actively contributes to activities that assist the industry to increase fresh produce exports.
Matthew and his team have been building foreign market relationships for years and sees this recognition as acknowledgement of the networks they have built.
“Carter & Spencer has established a strong presence across multiple continents through locations in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, with a proven track record of success,” said Mr Spencer.
“In addition to the locally grown produce we move through the Brisbane Markets every year, we also export Australian grown Sugar Plums, Cherries, Citrus, Lychees, Sweet Potatoes and more to all of Southeast Asia, China, India, Canada, USA, New Zealand and the Middle East.”
Brismark CEO and Brisbane Markets Limited Managing Director and CEO, Andrew Young, was also in attendance at Hort Connections and expressed his satisfaction in seeing one of Brismark’s Members and a Brisbane Markets community business receive such recognition.
“It is great to see one of our Brisbane Markets wholesalers named as a finalist for such a prestigious Australian fresh produce exporting award,” said Mr Young.
