Royal Queensland Show (the Ekka) sponsorship
Brisbane Markets has been a Blue Ribbon sponsor of the Royal Queensland Show (the 'Ekka') for many years. Brismark provides sponsorship funding to BML for their major sponsorship of the Brisbane Markets Agricultural Hall.
The Ekka is Queensland's largest annual event. Between 500,000 and 600,000 visitors attend the Show each year. Approximately 50% of Ekka visitors surveyed last year said they had visited the fruit and vegetable displays in the Brisbane Markets Agricultural Hall.
The Brisbane Markets has two display areas within the Brisbane Markets Agricultural Hall. The first area promotes fresh fruit and vegetables, the Fresh Tastes program and Fresh Tastes retailers. Retailers conduct free cooking demonstrations and taste testings to show Ekka visitors how easy it is to create simpe, healthy recipes using fresh fruit and vegetables.
The Fresh Tastes cooking demonstrations and taste testings have traditionally been a popular display within the Brisbane Markets Agricultural Hall. Visitors are attracted to sessions run by "real" fruit and vegetable industry people and hungry visitors enjoy the tasty treats created by Fresh Tastes retailers.
The second display area is child focused and promotes the Brisbane Markets Queensland Kids Fresh Net program and healthy eating to primary aged children. Kids and their parents learn that preparing healthy and delicious food is simple, fun and tasty.
A professional chef conducts kids cooking classes every day through the 10 days of the Show with kids given to opportunity to make a healthy recipe using fresh produce. They also learn about the Brisbane Markets and fruit and vegetables with all kids receiving a free Brisbane Markets ‘show bag' at the end of each class.
