Training and development
Brismark's training and development service is committed to improving the skill levels of Market users.
Brismark delivers a broad range of short courses including:
- Food safety
- Quality assurance and HACCP
- Administration and computer training
- Management skills training
- Forklift driving
- First aid training
- Markets Induction courses
- Certificate III in Transport and Distribution
- Certificate III in Business Administration
All of these courses are developed by Brismark and their content is industry specific.
Brismark established a training facility in their offices for these programs and some courses involve field trips to retailers' premises and growing districts.

Management Skills Training
A range of comprehensive courses are available for those employing, supervising or managing staff.
These courses are operated on a demand basis and may include the following:
- WorkChoices
- Industrial Relations
- Workplace Health & Safety / Workcover
- Staff discipline
- Recruitment / employment contracts
- Terminations
- Professional development
Computer Training
Brismark offers courses periodically in the Microsoft Office Suites from beginner to advanced including:
- Word
- Excel
- Access
- Outlook
Forklift Licensing Training
Brismark holds forklift training and assessment sessions each month.
The course covers the following areas:
- Workplace Health & Safety
- Forklift usage
- Pre-safety checks
- Safe driving checks
- Pre-exam preparation (theory and practical)
Sessions are limited to a maximum of 7 participants and broken into 3 sections as follows:
Session 1
Three hour pre-assessment theory training. Trainees are provided with a workbook to study for theory assessment, which will be no less than two weeks after the training session. Trainees are not given a copy of exam assessment questions in advance.
Session 2
Three hour theory assessment. The pass mark for this assessment is 100%.
Session 3
Practical Assessment conducted at the trainee's worksite or mutually agreed location and time.
If the trainee fails the theory component they can still undergo the practical assessment but they will not be able to re-sit the theory assessment for at least 21 days.
All trainees must attend the training session to be eligible to attend assessments.
Due to new standards imposed by the Department of Workplace Health & Safety, assessments will not be conducted until two weeks after training has been completed.
After completing the initial training trainees will undertake both the theory and practical exam. Once the pass the exam, their license is mailed out within 10 working days by the Division of Workplace Health & Safety.
Senior First Aid & CPR
Brismark conducts Senior First Aid and CPR courses every six months.
Every business should have a qualified First Aid Officer.
The following are the course options:
- Senior First Aid Certificate (3 sessions)
- Senior First Aid Re-Certification (2 sessions)
- CPR Training and Certificate (1 session)
Brisbane Markets Induction Course
The Market Induction Course is a valuable tool that facilitates the orientation to the Brisbane Markets.
The course fulfils an employer's legal responsibility to demonstrate due diligence by providing an overview of the Markets, its unique environment, and the significant safety hazards that the Markets contain for the uninitiated. The course gives attendees a greater understanding of the industry and introduces them to the unique features of the Brisbane Markets.
It provides basic information on the following:
- Industry and market overview
- Workplace Health and Safety (Incl. manual handling training)
- Employee's Responsibilities
- Brisbane Markets rules and regulations
- QA/HACCP
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Training
Brismark offers nationally accredited Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) training to Brisbane Market users.
HACCP is a food safety methodology which provides hazard identification and control mechanism.
This advanced course provides comprehensive training in the applications of HACCP and how to implement programs and procedures that will benefit your business.
The areas covered include:
- Implementing food safety program
- Reviewing food safety systems
- Establishing food safety records
- Developing methods to control and manage food safety hazards
Fire Safety Training
Brismark and the Queensland Fire & Rescue Service offer fire safety training to Brisbane Market users.
Participants learn to prevent and respond to an emergency situation in a warehouse or other building. They are also taught correct emergency procedures as well as which extinguishers and equipment to use in the case of an emergency.
The course covers:
- Workplace Health and Safety Act
- Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulation requirements
- Basic fire training
- Emergency procedures and how to act upon discovery of a fire
- Description of each type of fire extinguisher and method of operation
- Practical use of a fire extinguisher on live fires
Certificate lll in Transport and Distribution / Certificate lll in Business Administration
Trainees are able to complete modules at their own speed however each Certificate lll must be completed within two years. On average Certificates take between 12 and 15 months to complete, progress is monitored and encouragement given via periodic assessments.
